Depending on the quality of both the product and the installation, this flooring can last more than 25 years. Laminate has long been considered one of the best alternatives to a natural wood floor, with digital photography, micro beveling, and embossing that give depth, dimension, and raised grain look. It is also durable, low maintenance, and easy to install.
Just what the market has been waiting for
Because laminate is made from wood byproducts, it generally wasn't recommended for wet areas like the bathroom. Now you can install it anywhere! A unique construction, such as the high-density fiberboard (HDF) core, makes this a waterproof-from-the-top product, eliminating all concerns about spilling, absorbing, staining, and peeling. Make sure you use the waterproof version if you're installing in a wet area, and be specific with your flooring pro as to which one you want.
The best laminate flooring has the proper strength level for your installation
Using the right one will go a long way toward performance and longevity, and flooring experts usually rely on the AC (Abrasion Criteria) System to measure resistance to wear. Laminate is assigned a number from one to five and, as the numbers go up, so does the strength. For example, AC1 is appropriate for low-traffic rooms, like the bedroom. AC3 and AC4 are best for moderate to heavy residential use, respectively. AC5 is for commercial applications.
Get the right thickness
Laminate can measure 7-mm to 12-mm in thickness, but heavier is always better. A robust surface guarantees hidden subfloor imperfections as well as noise elimination. There are also more designs with a thicker surface. If you want a high-quality feeling that's firm and rigid like a hard surface, opt for a thickness of 10-mm or 12-mm.
